the costs of visiting ruth
when there are four relatives coming over for a visit, there are more logistics to take care of than you’d initially think of. you get excited with the prospect of meeting them and giving everyone a big bear-hug at the airport, but what happens next? off to the hotel because there’s no space in your flat and by law, you’re not allowed to accommodate such number of people in an 80 sq meter flat anyway. you’ll have to verify with the hotel if they have family rooms, because the same sq meter/person rule apply to hotels. how do you get them to the hotel? 5 people will fit in a normal car, sure, but what about the luggages? of four people, mind you. how do they get around? taxis are convenient, but prohibitive because of the costs. while public transport here in germany is quite efficient, lots of interesting sights are off the main routes and train tickets for four might come out as expensive as renting a vehicle. so rent-a-car it is! except we’ll need a mini-van, at least a 7-seater, if jan and i are playing tourguides. and such a car for 5 days including insurances, ladies and gentlemen, costs somewhere between 450 to 600 euro! nearly as much to fly to the philippines!
now i’m really starting to feel guilty they have to make a stop here…

hmmn, now you just gave me an idea kung magkano ang magagastos namin (or nila…lol) once my parents, my sister (& her family) come visit us. they’ve been planning…and hopefully, they really come here this year. btw, you forgot to mention the expenses if ever you guys are planning on going anywhere in germany for fun. then, yun pang mga “atbp” gastos. WHOA! laki..(!!!) your polvoron cost so much! hahaha

huy! i don’t mind helping you guys pick them up from the airport, just let me know. (vacation pa mga bata so no hassle)
laki pala ng gastos! pero the brighter side is: their 2 kids will be half priced or sometimes free pa every now and then hehehe)

ruthie, ok lang yan. there’s nothing like having family around, don’t you think?

des, when they come, convince them to stay for a longer period para sulit! if you need help or info, just call!
misis14, aprillassy, yupki: of yourse, you’re all right. it’s just a bit staggering when you think of the details…
justice: bea is 9 and jack is 4: negligible na ang freebies…

hi ruth! mas mura sana kung dibay dibay. pero mukang toka ka all the way. in the end, cost benefits na lang talaga ang laban. kahit mas mahal, ok ang bonding at ang mga puede nyong makita na di makikita from a train tram or bus.
enjoy!

naku, wag dibay-dibay, wala akong ia-ambag. they’re footing all the bills themselves. except for some details for their stay in germany, they even made most of the arrangements online themselves. kaya nga ako nagi-guilty eh.

techguy: i wouldn’t dream of driving in paris, anyway, hehehe… pero if you’re tlaking about expenses in general, i think london and scandinavia are still the steepest…
