picking fruits in autumn

after a rainy and chilly august, we’re having a fantastic summer-like september. but the fruits won’t wait. somebody’s got to pick ‘em, lest they all go to waste.
with over 10 kilos of apples, a basketful of plums, and a handful of pears, it seems like i’d need recipes. what the heck am i going to do with all these fruits? jan and i’ve already made a cake, but we still got, well, kilos to go. any other ideas?

Hi, Ruth! Make applesauce, apple dumplings and caramel apples with your 10-kilo bounty! Caramel apples with nuts make nifty little gifts.

Make jam out of it..apple jam for example or you can dry them and store it for months. I have a “dehydrator” for fruits and vegetable, you just plug this thing in all day with your thinly sliced fruits in it…let it dry for a day or two depending on how moist the fruit is. It’s great for snacks…a good substitute for candies. I tried watermelons one time…they turned out great and tasty.

thanks for your ideas, girls!
panna, the caramel apples sound lovely! i searched for a recipe, kaso we don’t have caramel cubes here. i might have to make it from scratch. ermmm…..
sachiko: well, there are orchards when you can pay for your pickings but we simply went to a meadow here on the edge of the woods. the trees are not tended to, so medyo pangit itsura nung apples, but they taste just as good. great fo baking kasi sour pa.
jo, that’s a great idea! a dehydrator is a good investment! i have a look for one.
cheH, oo nga eh, kaso i’m running out of jars na, and we haven’t even consumed those from last year’s. hm, on the other hand, christmas is coming, yun na lang gifts ko, haha!
