mallorca is the biggest among the balearic islands lying in the mediterranean sea. this spanish island receives nearly 9 million of visitors a year, a good percentage of whom are german, english, and dutch.

we’ve always thought we’re not the mallorca-holiday type of people: party til the wee hours of the morning, guzzling cocktails by the buckets (literally, the cocktails are served in buckets with straws for several people to share), and when not dancing to the ballerman beats, sunning on a beachtowel not an arm’s reach away from the next sunbather. that’s what mallorca meant to us… until last week.

thanks to holidaycheck, we found a hotel that has been rated high by families with small children. still, we were wary and were prepared to expect the worst. well, not really worst, but we braced ourselves and told ourselves to simply give it a try and expect nothing extraordinary.

we were positively surprised. the hotel we ended up in exceeded our expectations by a mile! it was quiet, clean, and the personnel have been extremely friendly, particularly to children. and as any parent would know, if the children are treated well, we parents are happy campers. the breakfast and dinner buffet offered superb food. and unlike the horrors we’ve heard, not once did we have to wait to be seated. the hotel club also had its own cove, which may indeed be quite tight and crowded during peak season, but as we travelled in late september, there was enough space for everyone. towards the end, the hotel was only probably half full, about 80% of whom had toddlers and kindergartners with them. what more can a parent wish for?
