asus eee pc or cloudbook?
dang, just as i wrap my head around the idea of finally getting an asus eee pc, comes the news that everex is launching a similarly sized laptop called cloudbook. same portability, same price, but with 30GB hard disk space (asus eee pc has 4G). but, stocks are running out in the US, and who knows if and when it gets launched here in singa? otherwise i could have ordered one online, have it delivered to someone i know from the US and then have it shipped over here. should be pretty easy, no need for a new york moving company to do that, although it might turn out more expensive, with duties and shipment fees slapped on it.
or should i rather wait for the 2nd generation asus eee pc also due to be launched in a couple of months?
now i am totally, utterly confused.

Hello, Cloudbook won’t be coming to Singapore because the one sold there is the Packard Bell Easynote XS. Same machine, just that instead of gOS Easynote comes with Windows XP. Though I am not sure, I think Easynote costs twice as much as the Cloudbook in S$, don’t know why.

Hi, thanks for the note. I’ve indeed read about territorial conflicts between PB and Everex. If Easynote costs twice, then it loses its appeal for me, because that’s exactly what makes Asus and Cloudbook attractive, right?

Exactly, I was keeping an eye on the Easynote too as that 30GB HDD is very attractive compared to Asus’s dinky 4GB SSD. Guess it’s back to Asus for me too (maybe).

ruth, i was so ready to hit the buy button for asus! naudlot lang because of this cloudbook. now, i’m totally confused which one is better. hubby is telling me to wait because this is an emerging market and for sure, more companies will jump into this mobile internet market. haaay….i’m giving myself few months…i’ve been wanting a mini-notebook for so long. i’m still partial with asus than the cloudbook because of the design and color.

haha, i’m in the same boat, gem, except that my hubby is egging me to just get one already. he says there will ALWAYS be new ones coming out anyway. and for that price, it’s almost “disposable”: use for 1-2 years and replace. i swear, i’m THAT close to getting one na.

oo nga, ruth. i’ll buy na lang the asus pc. if ever there are new ones in the market later, i’ll upgrade na lang. what do you think?

I have the asus, and it’s pretty handy so if you’re itching to get it, go ahead. I agree with your husband - for that price, you don’t really need to think twice. But I gotta warn you, the keyboard is way too small, even for me

[...] but that appears to be a blessing in disguise anyway. seems that every few weeks or so, an improved version of the asus eee pc comes up anyway. there was the cloudbook, with a higher laptop memory, and just recently the classmate pc was launched in the philippines. it’s even slightly cheaper than the asus eee, though not as sleek-looking. honestly, it looks a bit like the v-tech edutoys, and it’s no wonder, having been designed for kids use in the first place. but well, with two kids in the flat, perhaps its durable rugged design is just what i need anyway.
