travels in 2010
April 21st, 2010 by ruthwe’re planning a major holiday by year end and i anticipate it’s going to make a big dent in our savings, ack! for inactive mileage club flyers like us, the airfares alone would cost us more than 5 grand (S$)! ouch!
in addition to that, we’ve trying to sort out [lans for jan’s mid-year school break. the flights have been booked but well, we’ll see if all the plans pan out. ahhh, uncertain times!
lunch in 8 minutes
April 14th, 2010 by ruth
dunk tortelloni in boiling water.
simmer for 6 minutes.
while cooking tortelloni, chop tomatoes, spring onions, and mince a clove of garlic.
add olive oil, salt, and a dash of dried basil.
drain tortelloni.
transfer to a bowl, top with tomato salsa.
serve.
we’ve been having this salsa (sometimes with lightly sauteed zucchini or mushrooms) a lot on our pasta lately instead of the usual bolognese or cream-based sauces. it’s easier to prepare and the fresh salsa is a lot more appetizing in this energy-draining hot weather. a heart-healthy lunch (no alternative for cholesterol treatment, but garlic and olive oil are good for the heart) that’s easy to prep. san ka pa?
junk, spam, trash
April 9th, 2010 by ruthit’s getting really annoying how much crap i receive in my email inbox this days. i’ve already had to set up a few filters to mark spam, especially those advertising “vitality” vitamins for men, so that they go straight to trash. i may have missed one or two legit emails that happen to mention words i’ve decided to blacklist, but well, so be it. i’m not wading through my spam folder to fish those. but darn, these spammers are getting creative, there’s still always the odd one or two that doesn’t get nuked! arrgh.
fitness interrupted
April 8th, 2010 by ruthit’s not that i’m overly overweight. i think i’m fine on the weighing scale. it doesn’t mean i’m fit, though. i tire easily, and muscle tone is a distant memory. i know that even the most effective diet pills won’t help me with that.
was it ralph waldo emerson who said something like “when you really really want something, the universe will conspire to give it to you”? so why don’t i have a flat tummy yet?!? ironically, it actually feels like the world is conspiring NOT to give it to me. whenever i start something on the road to a trimmer midriff, something always crops up to keep me from progressing. arrgh!
easter 2010
April 7th, 2010 by ruthblogging has taken a back seat the last couple of weeks. eastertime has been a busy one this year. we’ve made lots of easter crafts this year and on easter sunday, we had jan hunt for easter egg nests in the living room and he found badminton rackets, play doughs,a quiz book (early lsat prep, haha!), blow bubbles, fingerpaints, pencils, eggs and lotsa sweets. mia too young to go hunting but was happy to gush with every find. we had another egg hunt planned for outdoors and were invited to another, but had to scrap them both because it was raining buckets.
the easter weekend was also special this year with my mother in law coming over and staying with us over the easter weekend til yesterday. the kids had a fabulous time showing oma around, giving her snippets of our daily life. my mil is undoubtedly one of the easiest mothers-in-law to have around, really swell to chat with, and while it would have been nice to have her a wee bit longer, it’s also nice to go back to our normal daily grind again.
holiday over. back to normal.
